Mary Jo Simone

Mary Jo Simone is an Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator for the COE Undergraduate Program, working with students getting their initial teaching license. A former elementary teacher, assessment coordinator and elementary principal, Mary Jo has over 35 years of experience in public education in Ohio and Oregon. Her special interests include mentoring pre-service and beginning teachers, designing curriculum, collaborative systems in schools, and differentiated instruction and assessment.
During her tenure as principal, Mary Jo’s school was recognized as one of Redbook Magazine’s best schools in the nation. The school was recognized for its innovative strategies and collaborative practices. The school also formed a partnership with Oregon State University Teacher Education Program and became a Professional Development School for pre-service teachers conducting action research in principles of effective classroom management.
