PORTLAND BAROQUE ORCHESTRA
October 9th, 7:30 pm
Dedicated to presenting authentic and spirited concerts of 17th and 18th century music, the Portland Baroque Orchestra is celebrating its new release of The Four Seasons on CD. The orchestra specializes in performing baroque and classical music on original instruments, or replicas of those instruments, from the time period in which the music was composed. The result is considered to be an "orchestral texture" very different from music played on the modern equivalents of these instruments. From its emergence in the early 1980s as a grass-roots cooperative of musicians, the Portland Baroque Orchestra is now a professional organization that works in educating a wide audience about the beauty of baroque music.
