Message From the Dean

Andy SaultzIt is an honor to serve as the Interim Dean of the College of Education. Our college serves students from preschool to doctoral level. We train teachers, speech language pathologists, researchers, and social activists. Our students come to us for our focus on building a more equitable world and a belief that education is central in a democracy. Our programs are designed to be rigorous, applicable to the real-world and personally meaningful.

We have four parts of the College of Education.

The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers a master of science degree in speech-language pathology. The program has been awarded candidacy by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. CSD also offers an undergraduate minor in communication sciences and disorders, as well as a post-baccalaureate prerequisite sequence for those preparing for the master’s program.

The School of Learning and Teaching offers undergraduate education major and licensure programs, as well as programs leading to master’s degrees, and non-degree programs for teachers who wish to add endorsements and/or authorizations to existing licenses. The majority of students seek an Oregon Initial Teaching License through one of these programs, which are offered at Pacific’s campuses in Eugene and Forest Grove. Our licensure programs are Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) accredited.

The Early Learning Community (ELC) is a rich stimulating learning environment where nurturing, creative teachers guide 3 years old’s through fourth graders. The ELC offers active, authentic learning experiences and beautiful outdoor spaces. The school culture is built on inquiry and values the contribution of each individual child while cultivating a sense of social awareness and belonging. Housed in Berglund Hall with the rest of the College of Education, the Child Learning and Development Center serves as an exemplary early childhood teaching and learning environment for our teacher preparation programs.

The PhD Program in Education and Leadership (PhDEL) is an online PhD Program jointly housed in the College of Education and the College of Health Professions. The Program is built on the principles of interprofessional education and radical inclusion. Each January, the program host a Interprofessional Education and Leadership (IPEL) Research Conference where doctoral students present their own scholarship. The PhDEL Program has been recognized as one of the most diverse on campus with a majority of students, staff and faculty from historically marginalized identities.

Here at the College of Education our incredibly thoughtful, dedicated and talented faculty build great teachers, speech language pathologists, and scholars who are changing the world every day.
