School of Pharmacy Student Ambassadors

Meet our School of Pharmacy Student Ambassadors! Our SOP student ambassadors are made up students enrolled in our PharmD program nominated by faculty and staff to serve as representatives of our SOP community. Student ambassadors work closely with the Office of Student Affairs in hosting our on campus community days for prospective students as well as go out into our local community to educate middle schoolers, high schoolers and undergraduates about the pharmacy profession.

Why did you choose PUSOP?

The 3-year condensed program was really attractive to me. I enjoy a good challenge and liked the idea of being able to practice a year sooner. Also, I looked into the faculty and reviewed their length of time teaching at PUSOP. It appeared most of the faculty had been teaching at the school for a lengthy period of time, which told me they enjoy working here and that it fostered a good work environment. That was important to me when choosing a pharmacy school.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

I plan to pursue a career in ambulatory care pharmacy. After completing a residency I hope to practice in a smaller clinic in which I can build relationships with my patients.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

I come from a small town in Oregon. After high school I moved to Scotland where I lived for a while. Once I moved back to the United States, I signed with a modeling management company in San Diego where I modeled lifestyle and fitness clothing. After a few years, I moved to Portland where I went to school and eventually managed dental practices. I am not a traditional pharmacy student, but my experiences before pharmacy school have changed how I interact with patients, preceptors, professors, and my peers. At the end of the day I'm glad I chose the route that I did.

What did you study in undergrad?

Business Administration: HR Management

Did you have pharmacy experience before pharmacy school? If so, what type?

The only experience I was able to acquire was shadowing an inpatient pharmacist. This experience gave me insight into working on a patient care floor in the hospital. It was an enriching experience to learn about pharmacy as it relates to neuro and orthopedic surgery.

What is your preferred form of communication with students?

Email

Why did you choose PUSOP?

I chose Pacific because they offered a 3-year accelerated program, it was a bonus that I did not have to leave to go to school! Ultimately, I wanted to go to pharmacy school after undergrad, but other plans happened so I took a detour to get here. Due to this detour, an accelerated program was appealing as I wanted to get into a residency as fast as possible.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

My primary goals are to become an infectious disease pharmacist or work in ambulatory care. Infectious disease has been an interesting topic for me ever since I completed microbiology. Ambulatory care has been a recent inspiration as we learned about hypertension and ASCVD.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

I am an open book and always happy to chat! We can discuss pharmacy school, career goals, HR tips on interview questions, or anything fun.

Why did you choose PUSOP?

The main things that I am very interested in are the accelerated program and the campus environment. I have made many appointments to meet with the advisors at Pacific University since 2017. The staff was really friendly and welcoming, and they made me feel like home. There are many resources and support systems for students who are in need.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

Before starting pharmacy school, I have always wanted to work as a retail pharmacist. During my P1 year, I started to become more interested in compounding pharmacy. This is one of the fields that I am concentrating on right now. But, I am open to learning more about what other pharmacy fields have to offer.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

I am currently working as a pharmacy intern at a compounding pharmacy. If you have any questions about the whole process or anything school related, you can reach out to me!

I chose PUSOP because of the enriching environment that everyone has created here. The faculty here really cares about seeing you grow as a pharmacist, and are open to have discussions about your thoughts and goals. The faculty here are also all extremely nice and always available to talk. There is a sense of community here between everyone, which I truly appreciate. I feel that I can truly achieve my goals, and beyond, here at PUSOP.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

Currently I am leaning more towards a role in community pharmacy, however, I am keeping my mind open to new experiences so my goals may change in the future.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

Vivian Pham, Class of 2025

Vivian Pham

Where are you from?

Hillsboro, OR

What are your hobbies outside of school?

bullet journaling, napping, consuming kpop content (mainly BTS), if it's a long break I'll watch kdramas :)

Where did you go to undergrad?

Pacific University

What did you study in undergrad?

Environmental Science with Toxicology & Chemistry

Did you have pharmacy experience before pharmacy school? If so, what type?

N/A

What is your preferred form of communication with students?

I don't have a preference, except I don't like Zoom.

Why did you choose PUSOP?

Although I may have been biased since I had gone to Pacific for undergrad, I found that there was the same welcoming environment in both campuses. The faculty and staff make an effort to make you feel comfortable and help out when they can and to the best of their abilities. In addition, they are understanding when things get stressful and really just want the best for you as long as you're also giving it your best. In addition, a plus for me was the location since I have lived in Hillsboro my whole life so it's super convenient.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

For short-term goals: Similar to most people who want to go into pharmacy, figuring out what speciality I want to go into while developing the skills & knowledge and of course, passing the NAPLEX and MPJE so that I can be a licensed pharmacist. For long term goals: I want to be a resource and potentially a friend to all the patients that I serve who they can depend on so that they can live their life to the fullest. In addition, being able to advocate for myself and others’ wellness in the team that I’m a part of because it’s known that burnout has affected the healthcare professions, especially pharmacists.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

I'm not a talkative person in general (especially in-person), but please don't feel intimidated by that and feel free to ask me questions! I will do my best to answer them if I can :)

Did you have pharmacy experience before pharmacy school? If so, what type?

I started my pharmacy career in compounding. I enjoyed learning about the intricacies of the medications themselves and the care that goes into making a quality pharmaceutical product. I was then offered a contract to join a specialty pharmacy as an Order Entry Pharmacy Technician. After completing that contract and spending some time as a Hazardous Materials Chemist for Clean Harbors, I decided to return to pharmacy and was hired as an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center where I still work as I go through pharmacy school.

What is your preferred form of communication with students?

Why did you choose PUSOP?

Pacific University School of Pharmacy came highly recommended from my coworkers while I was working at St. Vincent. I was initially drawn to the three year program, but after speaking to Tony Potter I knew that Pacific University was where I wanted to go despite acceptance to other schools.

What are your pharmacy career goals?

After joining Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, I knew I wanted to challenge myself and learn more by attending pharmacy school. It is my hope to remain within the inpatient hospital pharmacy field and bring my newly acquired knowledge and skills to help those in need. Additionally, I have always been very passionate about mentorship, training, and investing in those around me. This led me to join the PharmD/MBA program to learn how to become a better mentor and create an environment where pharmacy professionals can effectively collaborate to deliver top pharmacy care to patients, stay informed on the latest treatment options, and grow their careers.

Other things you would like prospective students to know about you?

I am very passionate about helping those around me. If you have any questions I have a lot of experience to offer you. Please don't hesitate to say hello or ask for advice!
