Welcome To First Year Seminar (FYS)
The First-Year Seminar (FYS) Program at Pacific University introduces incoming students to college academic life and the skills needed for success in that life. It is a humanities-based course in its content, intended to engage students in the task of personal and cultural critique, and designed to provide a common learning experience for the entire first-year class.
The FYS program's goals are two-fold:

To provide first-year students with the necessary academic skills to help them transition successfully to college

To introduce them to campus life and college culture through First-Year Experience events.
While incoming students share common goals within the FYS program, students will be exposed to a variety of teaching methods and approaches by dedicated faculty. We hope first-year students, parents, and faculty will find this website useful in discovering more about Pacific's First-Year Seminar.
