Internet Resources

The Library maintains a collection of internet resources and e-books.

These are available through the Library web site - http://www.pacificu.edu/library/ - and the Library catalog - http://abigail.lib.pacificu.edu/.

Main Stacks

The Library has a collection of more than 4,000 titles within the general circulating collection.

The main collection contains books and multimedia, including videos and DVDs.

The resources are arranged according to the Library of Congress (LC) system of cataloging.

Periodicals

The Pacific University Library subscribes to more than 1,000 current newspaper, magazine, and journal titles in print, and over 3,000 titles in electronic format.

Print Journals

The Health Professions Campus Library holds the hard copy from 1996-on for over 200 journal titles that support the Dental Health, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Professional Psychology, and Occupational Therapy programs.  These journals are shelved alphabetically by journal title in the Periodicals stacks.

To access print journal volumes which are older than 1996, please place an ILLiad request online, and the article will be delivered electronically to you from the Forest Grove campus.

Electronic Journals

You may access electronic journals in 2 ways:

    • on campus (either in the Health Professions Campus Library or the main Forest Grove Campus Library)
    • off-campus, using your Pacific PUNetID/password.

Reference

The Reference collection contains more than 400 resources available for use within the library.

The collection is mainly comprised of research tools such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, medical handbooks, statistical resources, and seminal works in the health professions.

This collection is freely available for use within the Library but may not be checked out.

Reserves

Reserve material is limited to use by Pacific University students, faculty, and staff. These materials consist of selected items placed on reserve by Pacific University faculty to support their course work. Reserve material can be checked out for either a two-hour or a two-day period. Reserve material can be renewed once.

Class materials are also available through the electronic reserve system, which can be accessed from any location with a protected password from the faculty member who placed the materials on reserve.  The faculty member will be the one to distribute the password.

Reserves are searchable using PacCat.

Electronic Reserves are searchable using Docutek.

Theses

Each graduate program at Pacific University provides a circulating and archival copy of dissertations and theses written by students within these programs.  The Library retains the circulating copy for the current ten years, but the Library keeps the archival copy.

The following is a list of the programs with theses held at the Health Professions Campus Library (other programs’ theses are held in the Forest Grove Campus Library):

  • Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies
  • Master of Science in Physical Therapy
Theses are searchable using PacCat.

Videos & DVDs

The Library has a collection of more than 300 videos (VHS and DVD) that may be borrowed for five days.

These videos and DVDs support the current curriculum of the College of Health Professions. The video collection is cataloged with Library of Congress call number and is interfiled with the books in the main stacks.

The video collection also circulates to other libraries via Interlibrary Services (ILLiad) and

Summit.
