Book Drop

There is one book drop for patrons to use, located inside the Library entrance at the Circulation Desk.

Computers

The HPC Library computing area has 8 desktop workstations available for patron use.

These computers have the latest versions of Microsoft Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe CS2, Front Page, Dreamweaver, and SPSS.

The computers use only CDs and flash drives, and the Library can help you store your documents on these media.

There is one color printer and one black-and-white printer available adjacent to the computers.

There are also 9 laptop computers available for patron check-out at the Circulation Desk.

Laptops are configured for wireless Internet access, as well as printing to HPC printers.  Laptops may be used in the Library or may be taken anywhere within the HPC building.

Emergency Exits

Should an emergency arise, please follow the instructions of the Library staff. In addition to the main entrance, an emergency exit is located behind the bound journals on the south side of the Library.

Group Study Rooms

Students who wish to study as a group are welcome to use the Group Study rooms in the Library if they are not already in use.  Rooms cannot be scheduled and are on a first-come-first-served basis.  We also ask that you yield the rooms to groups who need the equipment (applies only to Room 203).

  • Room 208 – Dry-erase board only.  Seats four

Internet Access

The Library has both hard-wired Internet access built into study carrels, as well as wireless Internet access available to the Health Professions Campus community.

Please visit the HPC University Information Services (UIS) office – located around the corner from the Library on the 2nd floor – to establish your wireless connection.

Alternatively, you may use the following instructions to establish your wireless connection.

Photocopiers

The Library has one black-and-white photocopier.  The copier will do double-sided copies, and will collate and staple copies. Library patrons pay $.05 per page.

The photocopier in the Library does not take change, so you must have a copy card to make photocopies.

Copy cards may be initially purchased for $1.00 and recharged from the vending machine in the Printing/Photocopy area of the Library.

Change in the form of one dollar bills is available at the Circulation Desk.

Printers

There is one color printer and one black-and-white printer available in the Printing/Photocopy area of the Library.

Printing services are only available on a cost-per-copy basis.

Every month, $5.00 will automatically be credited to your account.  You can monitor your present printing expenses at http://account.pacificu.edu

Current page rates are:

  • black-and white pages:  $.05
  • color pages:  $.25

Security Gate

To ensure that Library material leaving the building has been properly checked out, an electronic security system is in use.

An alarm will sound when material that has not been properly checked out is taken through it. When the alarm sounds, all books and packages will be examined to make sure that all Library material has been checked out properly.

If a non-circulating item is found, a written incident report may be filed with Campus Public Safety and with the Dean of Students.

Telephone

Patrons may use the telephone at the Circulation Desk to make brief (< 5 minutes), local calls.  Please ask Library staff before using the telephone.
