Summit User Guide List of Summit Libraries

Obtaining Book Chapters

  1. Check the Pacific University Library catalog:
    PacCat
  2. Search for the author/title of the BOOK.  This may be different than the author/title of chapter.
  3. If Pacific owns the book, you can request that the chapter be sent to you electronically.  To do so, you must enter the request in the ILLiad system:
    ILLiad First time user FAQs
  4. If Pacific doesn’t own the book, check WorldCat.  For instructions on how to order books through WorldCat, please read the WorldCat FAQs.

Obtaining Journal Articles

Use the E-journals link on the Library’s homepage to determine if the Library has web-based access to the specific journal and/or article.

  • If the journal is available electronically, click on the journal link and enter the article citation information (HINT:  If you’re unsure of the page numbers, or any other information, don’t enter it).  This should bring you to the full-text of the article.
  • If the Library does not have electronic access to the journal, use Interlibrary Services (ILLiad) to request the journal article.  If you have never used ILLiad before, you will need to complete a one-time registration form:
    ILLiad First time user FAQs
Please remember to include the ISSN (International Standard Serials Number) when completing your Interlibrary Services form! If you are using a Research Database/Index, the ISSN appears only in the full or complete display of the citation -- not in the abstract or citation-only display.
  • You do not need to check to see if the Pacific University libraries have the journal in print.

Obtaining Theses

  1. After finding a citation or an abstract for a thesis in PsycINFO, Dissertation Abstracts, or elsewhere, go to WorldCat.
  2. In the search box, type in the words from the title – this should be sufficient to locate the dissertation record.
If you are unable to locate the dissertation in WorldCat, please contact the Health Sciences Librarian.
  3. In the information about the dissertation you will see a section titled “Get This Item”.
  4. Click on the Send request to ILLiad link.

Be aware...

Not all institutions loan their dissertations.  If they do not, Interlibrary Services will contact you to ask if you are willing to purchase a copy of the dissertation.  Most dissertations cost between $25-30 each.

Obtaining ERIC Documents/Microfiche

Pacific University Library subscribes to four databases that index ERIC documents:

ERIC, from CSA ERIC, from EBSCOhost
ERIC, from FirstSearch ERIC, from the U.S. Department of Education

If you are searching these databases, and find a citation for which full-text is not available, you may request the document or microfiche through Interlibrary Services (ILLiad).  If you have never used ILLiad before, you will be prompted to complete a one-time registration form.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

ERIC documents have an accession number in their citation information.  This number is preceded by either EJ or ED.  You must include the ED number in your ILLiad request.  Place it either in the ISSN or Notes field.

Documents older than 1993 may only be available on microfiche.  If you have questions about using microfiche, please contact Interlibrary Services at 503-352-1413 or 1410.
