What is Summit?

Summit is the unified library catalog of universities and colleges in Oregon and Washington and the Center for Research Libraries in Chicago.

Through Summit, you have access to over 22 million books, sound recordings, films, video tapes, and more. 

As a member of Summit institution, you may borrow available materials from any other Summit library.

Summit contains bibliographic, location, and availability information for materials in participating libraries. Kinds of resources include:

  • books
  • government documents
  • audio-visual materials
  • sound recordings
  • films, videotapes
  • theses/dissertations
  • magazines, journals, newspapers
  • (however, you cannot order articles
  • via Summit)
  • archives and manuscripts
  • maps
  • music scores
  • computer files

When do I use Summit?

Use Summit to obtain items not in the Pacific Library Catalog (PacCat).

How do I use Summit?

·  You can access Summit in three ways: 

1.  Pacific University Library homepage

2.  PacCat homepage

3.  From within PacCat.  Simply follow the links that read “Summit” or “Search Summit.”

·  Search Summit as you would PacCat - by keyword, title, author, subject or other searches.  (Summit Search Tips)

·  To view which libraries own the desired item, click on the Summit libraries have this item link. 

The list will tell you which library owns the desired item, where that items is, its call number, and whether or not it is available to request.

To request materials

  1. Click on the Request this item link from the desired record's page.
  2. Select Pacific from the menu and click on Submit above information.
  3. Enter your name into the text box first name first, last name last.
    1. Enter your Student ID number in the second text box. Do not put in spaces or punctuation.
    2. Select “Pacific HPC Circ Desk” as your pick-up location.
    3. Click on Submit above information. If you do not know your Student ID number, please see Circulation.
  4. You will receive a confirmation.
  5. If you are unable to borrow materials, please check with Circulation to make sure your patron record is in good standing.
  6. Note: Periodicals cannot be requested.

To check your request status:

  1. Open PacCat.
  2. Click on View Your Patron Record from PacCat's main screen.
  3. Enter your name first name first, last name last, into the first text box.
  4. Enter your Student ID number into the second box. If you do not know your Student ID number, please see Circulation.
  5. Enter your pin number into the third text box. Your pin number should be the number you selected when you opened your account with the Library. If you do not know your pin number, please see Circulation.
  6. Click on Display record for person named above.
  7. From your patron record, click on the Requested materials link. This will show you what you have requested, what it's status is, and when you requested it.
  8. Note: When your Summit materials arrive, Circulation will e-mail you a notification.
