Open Access Journals


Open access journals do not charge subscription fees, and their full-text articles are available freely online. In the list below, we have listed some sites/portals that you can use to find open access journals/articles that are of interest to you. 


     PubMed Central (PMC) is the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) free digital archive

     of biomedical and life sciences journal literature.

     The Free Medical Journals Site was created to promote the free availability of full text

     medical journals on the Internet.  The site currently lists over 1,800 journals that are either

     entirely open access or that are freely available after an embargo period (delay) of usually

     6-12 months.

     The BMJ provides open access to peer reviewed research as part of its commitment to

     readers and authors.

     BioMed Central is an STM (Science, Technology and Medicine) publisher of open access

     journals.  All original research articles published by BioMed Central are made freely and

     permanently accessible online immediately upon publication. BioMed Central views open

     access to research as essential in order to ensure the rapid and efficient communication of

     research findings.

     Highwire Press is an epublishing platform from Stanford University.  Not all journals on the

     Highwire site are freely available, but there are many that make their back issues freely

     available, and some that are completely open access.  HP provides free access to over

     2,000,000 free articles and counting!
