Oregon weathers economic crisis

In a Pew Research poll released in July, Americans said the country's most pressing problems are the economy and jobs. Around the U.S., states are feeling a fiscal pinch, slashing state budgets and pulling back on services. Oregon's budget shortfall ranked in the top 10 in the U.S., and the state's unemployment rate led the nation.

Affirmative Action: Educators debate Supreme Court decisions

Affirmative action was endorsed by the U.S. Supreme Court in two landmark cases in June. The rulings were not as clear as many people hoped. With a one-vote margin, the University of Michigan's law school admission policy was upheld, but at the same time, the University's undergraduate policy was deemed unconstitutional.
