Clark Peters ’65, MSEd ’70 receives the 2012 Pacific University Outstanding Alumni Service Award for his years of service to public education in Oregon and his ongoing support of Pacific University’s speech and education programs.

Irv Zemrau 1962

Irv Zemrau ’62, O.D. ’63 receives the 2012 Pacific University Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award for his years as an optometrist, community volunteer and advocate for people diagnosed with schizophrenia and their families.

 

Lynn Meredith 1944

 
Lynn Meredith ’44 posthumously receives the 2012 Pacific University Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award for his service in World War II and his 32 years protecting presidents in the U.S. Secret Service. He died in 2009 at the age of 84.

P.J. Pitts 2009

 
P.J. Pitts, Pharm.D. ’09 receives the 2012 Pacific University Young Alumni Leadership Award for her work to provide triage and long-term health care in Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.

Samuel Arbital

Samuel Arbital celebrated the 55th anniversary of his home-office practice fitting of contact lenses in Plainview, N.Y.
 

Robert Casteel

Robert Casteel

Robert Casteel and his wife, Barbara Pelton Casteel ’56, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary March 23, 2014. They received the Pacific University Outstanding Alumni Award in 1986. Bob is a professor emeritus in speech and hearing sciences at Portland State University. Barbara is a retired insurance company executive. 

 

Chuck Olson

Chuck Olson was part of the featured barbershop quartet, The Aliens, at the 68th annual All-Northwest Barbershop Quartet Contest in Forest Grove in March. The Aliens have competed in the barbershop quartet contest 32 times and have performed all over the United States and Canada.

 

Jerry Kalapus

Jerry Kalapus was named to the Reynolds School (Fairview, Ore.) District Hall of Fame in November 2013. Kalapus taught at Reynolds High School from 1961 to 1965 and still substitutes in the district. His boys’ tennis teams won numerous conference titles over several decades. In 2012, he was named Oregon’s Substitute Teacher of the Year. He is married to Suzanne (Richards) Kalapus ’60.

 

Patricia (Laws) Conrad

Patricia (Laws) Conrad has resumed playing her clarinet after 50 years. She has joined the Portland Community Winds Band. She is a retired high school math and English as a second language teacher.

 

Jarunee (Toktaeng) Chantraparnik

Jarunee (Toktaeng) Chantraparnik and her store, Toys Unique, which closed in February, were featured in a story in the Washington Post. The Potomac, Md., store offered a variety of specialty toy items — no toy guns — and catered
to a wealthy clientele.

 

Kathleen (Morgan) Ferrando

Kathleen (Morgan) Ferrando retired as a principal and is now working at a San Francisco area university supervising student teachers and teaching an online class. She and her husband Al run a church thrift shop and volunteer at the Petaluma Visitors Center one day a week. They enjoy walking their dog, Dante, and enjoying the area near their home in the Petaluma Hills north of San Francisco.
