Leif Gustavson has been named dean of the Pacific University College of Education. He will succeed Mark Ankeny, who continues to serve as vice president for enrollment management and student affairs. Gustavson comes to Pacific from Arcadia University in Glenside, Pa., where he was an assistant professor, then associate professor. He served as chair of the Arcadia Education Department from 2010 to 2012 and as interim dean starting in 2012. As interim dean, he oversaw the transition from a department of education to a school of education. He is a strong proponent of K-12 and university partnerships and also initiated global teaching fieldwork experiences for Arcadia students. He earned his PhD in education from the University of Pennsylvania.
Reza Karimi was appointed interim dean of the School of Pharmacy on July 1, 2013, while a search for a permanent dean is underway. Karimi joined the faculty at the School of Pharmacy in 2006 and also served as the assistant dean for academic affairs and as associate dean for academic affairs and assessment. He received a master’s degree in pharmacy in 1991 and a doctorate in molecular biology in 1998 from Uppsala University in Sweden. He completed post-doctoral training in protease biochemistry in Reno, Nev., in 2002 and worked at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine School of Pharmacy in Erie, Pa., prior to coming to Pacific University.
