Two brothers and World War II veterans who attended Pacific in the 1940s were awarded the Oregon Honorable Service Medal this past fall during a ceremony to honor all veterans at the Veterans of Oregon Field of Honor at Chinook Winds Casino in Lincoln City. William Foelker, ’44, and his brother, Donald Foelker ’41, are among the oldest U.S. Marine Corps commissioned officers in the country to serve in the war and are thought to be the oldest such brothers in Oregon. Don is 87 years old and his brother
is 85.
Don Foelker attended Pacific with the intention of being a doctor, he said, but the war intervened. After the war he was production manager at the Hillsboro Argus for more than 60 years. William received a degree in education from the University and was a teacher and athletic director at Putnam High School in Milwaukie, Ore. Both brothers served in the Pacific war zone.
