Class of 1962 looks forward to 50th reunion

Reunion co-chair, Myra Beeler '62, looks back on her time under the oaks and is volunteering her time to make Homecoming 2012 a success for her 50-year reunion.

As a leader for the class of 1962, Myra (Schimke) Beeler '62, is working with Pacific staff and fellow alumni to create a 50-year Reunion all will enjoy.

Because she wanted to “ensure there is a variety of interesting and fun activities for people coming to campus after many years,” Beeler decided to volunteer her time.

After graduation from Pacific, Beeler married, raised two children and taught for 30 years.

Beeler stayed connected with Pacific through the years, taking advantage of events on campus and keeping herself updated with the latest news.

“It was a wonderful four years here and I am fond of the place,” Beeler said.

“The small class sizes gave me the opportunity to learn and express myself, and believe in my abilities,” said Beeler. “I got to work with more diverse groups of people than I was exposed to as a kid. It gave me confidence.”

Some of her fondest memories stem from being part of the “babes of Bates”—a tradition when she was in school that allowed 10 women with outstanding grades and morals to live in Bates House, which was originally built to house university presidents.

Beeler hopes fellow alumni will come to renew old acquaintances, see what’s happening at their alma mater and share memories of their own. Beeler thinks attendance is important so alumni can “reconnect with Pacific and be reminded even though Pacific has changed there are still a lot of things the same”

Alumni can simply come and enjoy or volunteer their time at Homceoming 2012. Beeler encourages alumni to participate in some way and to encourage their friends to partake as well.

Homecoming 2012 will take place on Forest Grove and Hillsboro campuses on September 28 and 29 with a variety  of events including the Boxer Nation Celebration before Homecoming football game, noise parade and bonfire traditions, Willamette Valley wine tours, and of course opportunities to reminisce and reconnect with former classmates.
