Brent Johnson is the recipient of Berglund Center's Faculty Fellowship Award for 2012-13

Brent Johnson, Assistant Professor in Pacific's English Department and Writing Resource Center Director has been awarded the Berglund Center for Internet Studies Faculty Fellowship for 2012-2013.

The Berglund Center for Internet Studies Faculty Fellowship for 2012-2013 has been awarded to Pacific University's Brent Johnson.

Brent Johnson is an assistant professor in Pacific University English Department and is the director of the Writing Resource Center on campus. He graduated cum laude from DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and has earned a master in fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Idaho. He lives in Hillsboro, Ore., with his wife and their two sons, and is currently at work on a book-length memoir based on travels with his family during his fall sabbatical.

Brent Johnson's research proposal is to create and facilitate a literature course in which students at Pacific engage in a cross-cultural exchange over selected, common texts via the Internet. This project will be in conjunction with students at York St. John’s University (YSJU) in York, United Kingdom. From this experience, students will consider the central question: What role does culture play in how we experience and interpret a text?

The Fellowship project is a joint effort between the Berglund Center and a member of the faculty or staff. All proposed projects advance in the interest of the applicant's program in supporting field-appropriate scholarly research, or in developing programmatic use of or assessment of the Internet. The Fellowship amounts to a $3,500 award to the fellow and his or her school or department.

The Berglund Center facilitates both theoretical discussion and practical action relating to the impact of the Internet upon individuals and their communities worldwide. We are interested in the effects of the Internet on the ways we work, communicate, teach and learn. It is endowed through a generous gift from Pacific University alumni Mary and James Berglund of La Jolla, Calif.
