Media Arts students' work to be featured on KGW's "Grant's Getaways" this weekend
Recent graduates Korina Kaio-Maddox '12 and Molly Trotter '12 and senior Alexa Block '13 produced segments for the award-winning program
Two recent Pacific University graduates and another student have produced video segments that will appear on KGW NewsChannel 8's Grant's Getaways this weekend.
Korina Kaio-Maddox '12 of Port Orchard, Wash. and Molly Trotter '12 of Hillsboro graduated from Pacific with bachelor degrees in journalism on May 19.
They and Alexa Block '13, a senior from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. majoring in media arts, worked under the tutelage of program host and fellow alum Grant McOmie '75 in an electronic media course at Pacific taught by McOmie.
The students' stories cover white-water kayaking via Pacific's Outback program, local hiking destinations that take in the B Street Permaculture Project and Fernhill Wetlands and a profile of the Tree to Tree Adventure Park near Hagg Lake. Much of the videography for Grant's Getaways, including these segments, is captured by another Pacific alumnus, Jeff Kastner '05.
"I was very impressed with the quality of their work," McOmie said. "It's a unique chance for college work to appear in a professional broadcast and it is also the sort of thing I hoped the students would tackle during the course."
Grant's Getaways can be viewed on KGW NewsChannel 8 Saturday evenings, and on Northwest Cable News Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Sundays at 5 p.m.
