Chamber Singers To Appear on All Classical Radio on Sunday

Pacific's Chamber Singers' March 11 performance will be broadcast throughout the state on All Classical's "Played in Oregon."

On Sunday, Aug. 12, Pacific University’s Chamber Singers will be featured on an episode of Played in Oregon, a program on All Classical FM radio.

The show will include the singers’ March 11 performances of Morten Lauridsen’s Sure on this Shining Night and Javier Busto’s Ave Maria at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.

All Classical is a nonprofit radio station dedicated to fostering appreciation of classical music in the Northwest, with stations in Portland (89.9 FM), Hood River (90.1), Newport/Lincoln City (88.1), Hood River/The Dalles (88.1), Columbia Gorge East (96.3) and McMinnville (90.3).

Played in Oregon highlights the classical music scene in the state. It broadcasts from 1-2 p.m. on Sundays and is hosted by Christa Wessel.

The show will also include performances by, among others, the Pacific Youth Chamber Choir and the Oregon Guitar Quartet.

Pacific’s Chamber Singers are led by Dr. Scott Tuomi, chair of the Music Department and director of choral activities. Tuomi, an accomplished tenor soloist, teaches music history and vocal studies at Pacific. He has sung in numerous festivals and concerts, including the William Byrd Festival, in which he and his wife, Leslie, have performed together. Tuomi is also director of the St. Michael’s Singers at St. Michael and All-Angels Episcopal Church.

The Chamber Singers are comprised of students from several academic fields, as participation in the University’s ensembles is not limited solely to music students. The Chamber Singers have toured internationally, as well as in the Pacific Northwest and northern California.

Pacific also offers several other musical ensembles to students, including the Philharmonic orchestra, Jazz Band and Concert Choir.
