Notes from Under the Oaks
The rain has returned to western Oregon. Rain is no surprise, but the late arrival is both unexpected and refreshing. It was unusually dry for the past few months. It has been so dry the Homecoming Bonfire & Rally was cancelled due to a total burn ban.
Now that the rain has arrived there’s a sense that fall is truly here. It feels a bit odd to have already celebrated Homecoming, though I’m not complaining about the warm weather and gorgeous blue skies we enjoyed all weekend.
This year, as every year, my favorite part of Homecoming was watching alumni see each other for the first time in any number of years. Sometimes there is instant recognition. Other times there is a brief moment of careful scrutiny. Regardless, the second of recognition is always followed by a hearty handshake or a fierce hug. Sometimes there are even a few jumps of joy and squeals of laughter.
It is an incredible thing to be part of these moments. It is what we work all year to see.
The honor of being part of not only these moments, but all the special moments in life, is one of the greatest joys of working in the alumni office. We truly care about every alumnus and we know your classmates do to.
Many alumni have contacted us following the arrival of the fall 2012 Pacific magazine to ask what happened to the Class Notes from before 1974. Sadly, nothing “happened” to those notes – we simply never received any news. I hope to see this change before the spring magazine. Please submit your news to email@example.com.
Doesn’t everyone read the magazine back to front, stopping in at the Class Notes before pursuing the other articles?
You can help make those notes more interesting and meaningful by telling us about the latest in your life. Are you retiring? Refusing to retire? Welcoming a child or grandchild? Getting married? Buying a new home? Starting a new job? Finishing graduate school? We want to know – and so do your classmates!
Please keep in touch! Send us your stories and don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance.
