Public invited to browse and purchase handcrafted offerings from all over the world that help improve the lives of thousands of artisans in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.

The public is invited to the return of Pacific University’s International Bazaar being held Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the University Center on the Forest Grove Campus.

The sale offers a unique opportunity for consumers to participate in a fair trade shopping experience that features an exquisite collection of handcrafted gifts, décor, jewelry and personal accessories from Ten Thousand Villages, a fair trade retailer of products from more than 130 artisan groups located in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

For more than 60 years, Ten Thousand Villages has been establishing long-term buying relationships in places where skilled artisans lack opportunities for stable income.

The sale is a joint initiative of the University’s International Club and Office of International Programs. The event is also a part of the University’s celebration of International Education Week, the U.S. State Department’s annual initiative that highlights the importance of international student exchange and global awareness education.

“We're glad to be able to bring the bazaar back to campus this year after last year's hiatus,” International Student Advisor Megan Serenco said. “By doing this, residents of the Forest Grove and greater Portland communities have a chance to help create employment opportunities around the world.”
