Danny Brakebush Named To D3Hoops.com Team of the Week
The freshman is named to the national Division III honor roll for his outstanding shooting performances against Pacific Lutheran and Linfield.
FOREST GROVE – Danny Brakebush's (Fr., Portland, Ore.) two stellar shooting performances in Pacific's wins over Pacific Lutheran and Linfield last weekend has earned the freshman guard selection to the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week. The weekly honor roll of Division III men's and women's basketball players was announced on Tuesday.
Brakebush finished last weekend with 43 points in the two victories, shooting 62.5 percent from both the floor and the three-point line to go along with four rebounds, three assists and three steals. He led Pacific in both games as the Boxers won their first two Northwest Conference games of the season.
On Friday, Brakebush led the way with a Pacific season-high 26 points as the Boxers beat Pacific Lutheran on the road, 81-73. He finished 9 of 15 from the field, 5 of 10 from three-point range and 3 of 4 from the free throw line. In Saturday's 69-53 home win over Linfield, Brakebush led the Boxers with 17 points on 6 of 9 from the field and 5 of 6 from the three-point line.
Head Coach Tim Cleary said that Brakebush's performances are setting the Pacific for the offense more and more as the season progresses. “With time in the system, he continues to gain a greater understanding of where his shots will come and how to best operate,” Cleary said. “The exciting thing about Danny is that with his intelligence and dedication to the game, he will continue to improve the longer he is in the program.”
Brakebush, a 2012 First Team Oregon 6A All-State selection for Portland's Central Catholic High School, enters the weekend ranked fourth in the NWC in scoring, averaging 16 points per game. He ranks second in the league in three-point percentage at 47.6 percent and leads the league by shooting 85 percent from the free throw line. In the Jan. 13 NCAA Division statistics report, Brakebush ranked 17th in three-point percentage, 25th with 3.0 three-pointers made per game and 55th in free throw percentage.
Pacific enters the week with an 8-6 overall record and 2-3 Northwest Conference mark after taking a 63-61 loss at Lewis & Clark on Tuesday. The Boxers return to action on Saturday at home against Puget Sound. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. Live audio and video webcasts of the game will be available at goboxers.com.
