Pharmacy Professor Named to Governor's Task Force

Michael Millard joins Oregon Governor's Task Force on Prescription Drug Abuse.

Michael Millard, an assistant professor within Pacific University's School of Pharmacy, has been named to the Oregon Governor's Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force

Last August, the National Governor's Association gave grants to gubernatorial offices around the country to develop statewide plans to address the growing epidemic of prescription drug abuse.

In Oregon alone, there has been a 450 percent increase in deaths resulting from prescription drug overdoses.

"I look forward to representing Pacific University in these important patient advocacy efforts," Millard said.

Millard is widely respected throughout state and national health circles. During his near 40-year career, he has successfully led efforts to improve patient safety as a pharmacy director, instructor and consultant.

He has received numerous citations for professional excellence, including the 1990 Oregon pharmacist of the year honor.

In addition to the governor's task force, Millard also serves in several other advisory roles, including the Prescription Monitoring Program Advisory Commission for the Oregon Department of Human Services, the Oregon State Pharmacy Coalition executive board.
