Portland's Dan Balmer to Perform at University's Spring Jazz Nite on Friday, April 12

Noted jazz artist Dan Balmer joins the Pacific University Jazz Band and Jazz Choir at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12 for the spring Jazz Nite concert in McCready Hall (Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center) on the Forest Grove campus.
Balmer, considered one of the finest guitarists, composers and educators in the Northwest, is one of only five Oregonians and the youngest to be honored with membership in both the Oregon Music Hall of Fame and the Jazz Society of Oregon Hall of Fame.
He has traveled throughout the world playing and recording and has been hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “the model of what a contemporary guitarist should be.”
Jazz Nite includes a wide variety of pieces with a bit of something for all jazz fans. Easy ballads include "Everything" and "Magic City Dances." Funk style appears in "Pick Up the Pieces" and "Beulah Witch."
Patrons who enjoy rock will appreciate "Big Mama Cass" and "The Joy of Cookin'." Swing enthusiasts can look forward to "Night Train" and "Emergency Stopping Only."
General admission is $7 and may be obtained in advance by calling 503-352-2918. Senior citizens 65 and greater, and Pacific students, faculty and staff are admitted for $5.
