Ed Asner to Portray President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on Sunday, April 21
A limited number of tickets are still available for this unique solo performance, and can be purchased by calling 503-352-2918.
Legendary actor Ed Asner will portray America's 32nd president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21 in the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center at Pacific University.
Tickets are still available for the matinee, the final installment of the university's 2012-13 Performing Arts Series presented by Tuality Healthcare and the Best Western University Inn & Suites.
Asner's portrayal of Roosevelt provides keen insight into FDR's time as Commander in Chief.
His one-man show takes audiences through FDR's White House years, including the Great Depression, the steps leading up to World War II and the war itself.
Fireside chats, a controversial packing of the Supreme Court, an extramarital affair, gamesmanship with Congress and his handling of Pearl Harbor are just some of the moments Asner embodies as Roosevelt, the only American president to be elected to four terms.
Perhaps best known for his character Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970-77) and his namesake spinoff, Asner earned an Emmy Award as Captain Davies in the groundbreaking mini-series Roots (1977) based on Alex Haley's novel.
A limited number of tickets are available at $30 apiece, or $20 for those 12 and under, and may be purchased by calling 503-352-2918 between 1 and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. A handling fee of $4 is added to each order.
