Seventh Annual In Your Face Lecture Set for Tuesday, April 23

Political economist and author Kristen Sheeran to present "Climate Clarity before Climate Chaos: Economic Justice Now. Sponsored by the Politics & Government Department.

Award-winning political economist and author Kristen Sheeran, Ph.D. will deliver Pacific University’s seventh annual In Your Face Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Marsh Hall’s Taylor Auditorium on the Forest Grove Campus (2043 College Way).

Dr. Sheeran’s talk is titled “Climate Clarity before Climate Chaos: Economic Justice Now” and sponsored by the university's Politics & Government Department.

Admission is free and a light reception will follow.

Sheeran's appearance is the concluding event of Pacific University's Earth Week events lineup.

In “Climate Clarity before Climate Chaos: Economic Justice Now,” Sheeran will trace the vital political-economic dimensions of climate change before offering a robust explanation of what she views as the best path forward.

After presenting her bold, yet feasible, plan to address the climate change conundrum, the audience will have an opportunity to weigh in with questions, comments and ideas.

Sheeran is vice president of Knowledge Systems at Ecotrust, and executive director and co-founder of Economics for Equity and Environment Network (E3), a national network of economists developing new arguments for environmental protection.

Her research is focused on climate change, environmental policy, political economy and development.

She is author of an award-winning book, Saving Kyoto (with Graciela Chichilnisky, New Holland, 2009) and has scholarly articles published in Environmental and Resource Economics, Climatic Change, Ecological Economics and other journals.

She has also written about economics and the environment for a popular audience, including op-eds in The Washington Post and Baltimore Sun, and is a frequent contributor to blogs Real Climate Economics, Grist, and Triple Crisis.

Prior to her role with Ecotrust, Sheeran was an associate professor of economics at St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
