Pacific University Opens Woodburn Campus
College of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programming in one of Oregon's fastest growing and most diverse communities.
Pacific University has opened its fourth campus in Woodburn, Ore.
The campus will be home to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs through Pacific’s College of Education.
Pacific first started offering courses in Woodburn as a pilot program in the 2011-2012 academic year. The College of Education launched a master of arts in teaching program, embedding prospective science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) teachers in the local middle and high schools. That program has since grown into a permanent part of the College of Education curriculum offering, providing students the opportunity to earn a master’s degree in teaching STEM courses, along with an endorsement in teaching English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).
Starting in 2014, the college also will offer an undergraduate teaching degree in Woodburn in partnership with local community colleges. The undergraduate degree will target minority students who complete prerequisite work through a community college and complete their elementary teaching degree, with an ESOL endorsement, with Pacific University.
Located on I-5 between Portland and Salem, Woodburn is one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in Oregon.
The Woodburn Campus includes classroom and office space in downtown Woodburn, in what was once an early-1900s hotel on the popular rail line south of Portland. Later, the building was owned by the Odd Fellows organization. Today, Pacific is engaged in a five-year lease with Tom Flomer, owner of nearby Flomer’s Furniture.
Pacific University was the first chartered university west of the Mississippi, founded in 1849. Today, Pacific is a comprehensive university serving nearly 3,500 students with undergraduate, graduate and professional programs in the liberal arts and sciences, optometry, education, health professions and business.
