Reza Karimi Named Interim Dean of the School of Pharmacy

Effective July 1, 2013, Dr. Reza Karimi is the Interim Dean of the School of Pharmacy while a search for a permanent dean is underway.



The College of Health Professions of Pacific University Appoints Dr. Reza Karimi as Interim Dean of the School of Pharmacy
Effective July 1, 2013, Dr. Reza Karimi was appointed Interim Dean of the School of Pharmacy while a search for a permanent dean is underway. Professor Reza Karimi RPh, PhD, received his MS in Pharmacy in 1991 and his PhD in Molecular Biology in 1998 from Uppsala University, Sweden.  He completed a 3-year post-doctoral training fellowship in protease biochemistry in Reno, Nevada in 2002. He then became a full-time faculty member at LECOM School of Pharmacy in Erie, PA, where he later assumed two director positions, Director of the Student Promotion and Retention program and Director of the Post Baccalaureate (pre-pharmacy) program.
Dr. Karimi joined the Pacific University School of Pharmacy in 2006, where he received tenure in 2010. He has served with distinction as a faculty member, the Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, and the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Assessment. Dr. Karimi is a registered pharmacist in Oregon and has a keen interest in advancing pharmacy education and the pharmacy profession through the preparation of pharmacy students to meet the demands of the evolving healthcare system.  While Reza has a passion for biochemistry and the role of antibiotics on bacterial protein synthetic machinery, he maintains an active interest in assessment, educational research and outcomes, and pharmacy practice. He has served as a leader of patient-centered, Interprofessional education in the College of Health Professions.
Dr. Karimi took the place of former School of Pharmacy Dean, Sue Stein, who has transitioned to her new role as Associate Dean for the College of Health Professions as planned. Dr. Stein’s contribution in her new role has been eagerly anticipated.
The search for a new Dean for the School of Pharmacy is underway. Dr. Christane Brems, Dean of the School of Professional Psychology in the Pacific University College of Health Professions, will serve as Chair of the search committee. The search will be conducted with the assistance of E.K. Dawson Executive Search.
