Library Forms New Partnership With Oregon Library Association

The agreement will expand and enhance access to the OLA Quarterly, OLAs official journal, by way of Pacific University Libraries' publishing platform and technical support.

Pacific University Libraries and the Oregon Library Association have entered into a publishing partnership that will expand and enhance access to OLA's journal, OLA Quarterly, which has been published continuously since 1995.

Under the terms of the partnership, Pacific University Libraries will host OLAQ on the Libraries’ publishing platform and will provide technical and production support for the journal.

While OLAQ is currently available on OLA’s website, the enhanced functionality and support provided by Pacific University will increase the visibility of the journal, as well as improve OLA’s ability to track the readership and impact of OLAQ articles.

“We’re very excited about this new partnership,” said Penny Hummel, president of the Oregon Library Association. “Each issue of OLAQ offers new perspectives on the changing face of library services throughout Oregon, and Pacific University’s involvement will significantly increase our ability to reach interested readers.”

The OLA Quarterly will be the second open-access library journal published by Pacific University Libraries, joining the peer-reviewed Journal of Librarianship and Scholarly Communication.

“We believe it is important for the Libraries to not only contribute to the availability of open access scholarship in general, but more specifically to promote — through these journals — shared best practices within our own profession,” noted Marita Kunkel, Pacific University librarian.

The first issue of the OLAQ published through the Pacific University Libraries will be Spring 2014. All back issues will also be added to the Pacific publishing platform by July 2014.

The Oregon Library Association exists to promote and to advance library service through public and professional education and cooperation. OLA's officers, divisions, committees and roundtables help make OLA a vital, dynamic library organization with more than 1,000 members. We have a record of successfully representing the interest of libraries and library staff and those they serve throughout Oregon.
