Professor Jules Boykoff to Speak on Olympics and Politics at Portland City Club on Friday, Feb. 7

Boykoff, chair of the Politics & Government Department, will discuss politics associated with the Olympic Games as 2014 Sochi nears.



Pacific University (Ore.) associate professor Jules Boykoff, an expert on the politics of the Olympic Games, will be the featured speaker at the City Club of Portland's next Friday Forum, set for 12:15 p.m., Friday, Feb. 7. Boykoff will present Money, Politics & the Olympics.

Oregon Public Broadcasting radio broadcasts each forum on Friday evenings from 7 to 8 p.m.

Boykoff is an expert on politics and the Olympics. His most recent essay on the subject, co-authored with Dave Zirin, appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle on Jan. 23.

Addtionally, Boykoff provided his thoughts to Agence France Press on Russia's anti-gay laws as the 2014 Sochi games near.

Boykoff presented a talk titled The Olympics: Celebration Capitalism on Jan. 10, and will be part of a panel discussion, Five Ring Fever: The Sochi Games and Celebration Capitalism on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in New York.

He will also provide analysis on the British Broadcasting Company's Business Daily in a story titled The Olympic Brand scheduled to air on Saturday, Feb. 1.
