Financial Beginnings, a Portland-based nonprofit, is excited to announce the Pacific Northwest’s first finance education training for teachers. This much anticipated event will increase educators’ competency and confidence in personal financial management, and provide resources and strategies to help teachers incorporate finance lessons in their classrooms.

This two-day conference, held at Portland State University August 19th and 20th 2014, welcomes expert presenters to engage teachers in unbiased, activity-based learning. Teachers will learn about budgeting, investing, risk management, fraud protection, and debt management. Participating teachers will earn continuing education hours, and graduate credit through Portland State University.

This event brings a proven, nationally-recognized curriculum to Oregon. Created by the Jump$tart Teacher Training Alliance, and with insight from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the U.S. Department of Treasury and the U.S. Department of Education, this curriculum has been piloted in several markets across the United States. Data confirms it has widespread and significant impact in increasing educators’ financial knowledge and, in turn, their ability to teach finance lessons to students.
