NHOH Presents 54th Annual Lu'au on Saturday, April 12

A limited number of tickets are available for both the meal and show. The 2014 theme is "One Foot on the Sand."

Pacific University’s Hawaiian Club, Ná Haumána O Hawai'i, presents its 54th annual Lu'au at the Forest Grove Campus on Saturday, April 12, 2014. This year's theme is "One Foot in the Sand."

The event will include traditional Polynesian dance, music and entertainment, preceded by an authentic Lu'au meal featuring traditional staples kalua pig, chicken long rice, teriyaki chicken, poi, haupia, coconut cake, and punch.

The meal is scheduled for 4:30 - 6 p.m. in the University Center on campus, and the show will follow at 6:30 p.m. in the Stoller Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the show.

A Hawaiian General Store in the Stoller Center will feature specialties flown in from the islands. Fresh pineapples, cookies, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, leis, jams and jellies, and other treats will be available Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and at 5:30 p.m. before the show.

Ticket prices range from $15 to $37, depending on seating and dinner choice.

The event annually sells out and the public is strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at boxofficetickets.com.

The Lu'au is a collaborative effort of Pacific students, including Hawaiian Club members, faculty, staff, local community members, businesses, and family members at home in Hawai’i. Many students’ parents come from the Islands a week in advance to make leis and put together decorations.

The Hawaiian Club was founded in 1959 with 16 students. By 1962, 60 student Club members represented the eight islands of Hawaii. The Club has recently opened membership to anyone interested in learning more about the Hawaiian culture and now boasts more than 300 members. The students actively share their Island traditions by performing various functions both on and off the University campus.

Students from Hawaii comprise 20 percent of the student body at Pacific University. The Lu'au is produced and presented by the Pacific University student Hawaiian Club as a fundraiser for community service projects and club activities. For more information, visit the Lu'au web page or contact Edna K. Gehring at (503) 352-2073 or luau@pacificu.edu.
