Pacific Forensics Team Continues Success

Speech, debate team earns second place team sweepstakes award


At a forensics tournament Jan. 14 hosted by Clackamas Community College, Pacific University students earned first place awards in four of the 12 speaking events that were offered.  By doing so, the Pacific team earned a second-place team sweepstakes award.

Tiffanie Bearce and Josh Masagatani won dramatic duo, with Masagatani also winning poetry. Bethany Boulden took first place in persuasive speaking, and Haylie Swenson was the winner in prose.

Other students winning awards include Tyler Atwood, Kristin Bone, Michelle Davis, Jared Knowles, Ashley Pinedo, Jessica Portney, Mark Truax and Kyle Vorderstrasse. For the next trip, eight members of the team will travel to San Diego on Feb. 3 to compete with students from 75 other colleges and universities.
