Mission

The mission of Partnerships for Student Achievement (PSA) is to increase student academic achievement in Washington County schools; the AmeriCorps team will improve academic achievement through tutoring, mentoring, extended school day activities, parent involvement programs and volunteer generation. The value of service will be demonstrated to the community at large and a stronger network of involved citizens will be generated.

Objectives
AmeriCorps members serve full-time for 11 months in Washington County schools. Member activities vary from school to school but include the following objectives:
  • To provide tutoring and mentoring activities to low-achieving and at-risk students with a special emphasis on literacy and math;
  • To recruit, train, and coordinate new parent/community volunteers;
  • To provide outreach to parents of low-achieving and at-risk students;
  • To develop, implement and staff extended school-day activities, particularly those that combine recreation, academic enrichment and tutorial activities.
PSA members receive a monthly stipend, student loan forbearance, health care, and an Education Award to pay for school, the opportunity to work with education professionals, and most importantly, the knowledge and satisfaction of making a difference in the lives of students.
