UIS Network Testing

University Information Services has hired a student employee to help us complete network testing and mapping in all of our campus buildings.


University Information Services has hired a student employee to help us complete network testing and mapping in all of our campus buildings.    This will require the student to enter every room where we have network connections and plug in a piece of network test equipment to document the network port it is plugged into.   We may temporarily disconnect telephone and computer connections to complete his testing and may need to move some office furniture in order to test additional network jacks.   If you are in your office when we come, please let us know if it would be better for us to schedule a later time to come back and complete the work.

The primary reason for doing this mapping is to help us map room numbers to network jack locations.  This is needed for Enhanced 911 location tracking so that we can make sure emergency responders know where to go when responding to a 911 call.   It is also helpful for us to locate infected, improperly configured, or missing devices.
