Jumpers Selected To All-Academic Track Squad

Triple jumper Risa Allen and long jumper Angie Miller are selected to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Division III All-Academic Team

FOREST GROVE - The Pacific track and field team continues to be honored for excellence around the oval and in the classroom as jumpers Risa Allen (Sr., Portland, Ore.) and Angie Miller (So., Alsea, Ore.) have been selected to U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team.

The selections mark the first time that Pacific student-athletes have been selected to the coaches association team.  They are two of 274 athletes from 91 Division III schools honored by the USTFCCCA, including 16 from the Northwest Conference.

To be selected to the USTFCCA All-Academic Team, athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met the NCAA Division III indoor or outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

Risa AllenThe coaches honor is the third academic award for Allen this spring, who concluded a four-year standout career in the triple jump in May.  She qualified for her first NCAA Division III Track and Field Championship this spring after setting a school record with a mark of 38 feet, 9 inches.  The effort was the sixth best in conference history and the 12th best in the nation this spring.  Allen finished as a two-time NWC champion in the triple jump and never finished worse than third at the conference meet.

Allen graduated in May with a 3.70 grade point average with a major in mathematics.  She has also been honored with selection to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII Track & Field Team and the All-Northwest Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team.

Angie MillerMiller was recognized after a season where she won her second straight NWC title in the long jump as a sophomore.  Miller captured the championship with a mark of 18 feet, 0.5 inches, setting a Pacific record in the process.  The mark ranked 37th best in the nation this season, but fell short of the field of top-18 qualifying marks for the national meet.  In addition to her work in the long jump pit, Miller competed in the 200 meters and ran legs on the Boxers' 400 and 1,600-meter relay teams.

Miller finished the academic year with a 3.69 grade point average as an exercise science major.
