College of Optometry alumni earn prestigious fellowships
American Academy of Optometry inducts six Pacific graduates
Six alumni of Pacific University’s College of Optometry were recently inducted as qualified Fellows of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO).
In qualifying for and maintaining AAO fellowship, individuals are evaluated against the highest standards of professional competence. Fellowship is open to optometrists who are licensed to practice at the highest level permitted by law in their respective jurisdictions. The following Pacific University alumni are members of the 2009 AAO Fellows induction class:
- Peggy S. Achenbach, O.D. (Ponte Vedra, Fla.)
- Jennifer D. Choo, O.D. (Australia)
- Jennifer A. Gustafson, O.D. (Natick, Mass.)
- Christopher A. Nield, O.D. (Blackfoot, Idaho)
- Matthew G. Pearce, O.D. (Fiji Islands)
- Blake G. Simmons, O.D. (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Since 1922, the AAO has been enhancing excellence in optometric practice by fostering research and disseminating knowledge in vision science through the continuing education presented at its annual meeting. Members of the Academy are dedicated to the highest standards of optometric practice through clinical care, education or research.
Only about 10 percent of U.S. optometrists have earned Academy Fellowship, and Fellows from 43 different countries are represented in the membership.
