Pacific Hosts 'Girls Today' Conference for Girls Ages 12-15

Girls ages 12 to 15 are invited to a workshop for the opportunity to speak and be heard, with facilitators from the Pacific University School of Professional Psychology.

The workshop is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Pacific University's Washburne Hall (University Center). Cost is $5. Parents also are invited to an optional parent meeting from 8:30 to 9 a.m. that morning in the Library Conference Room to learn about the needs and benefits of such conferences and about the events going on throughout the day.


The American Association of University Women has identified problems such as sexual harassment, violence, early substance abuse, poor communication with parents and body image as critical issues for adolescent girls. The conference and others like it shed light on these challenges while letting girls express themselves and propose strategies to address their common concerns.

Workshops like these engage girls in critical thought and constructive problem solving, while demonstrating that adults care about their educational and personal development.
