Pacific Celebrates NCAA Division III Week with Extended Slate of Activities


A variety of activities, features on tap to recognize the efforts of Pacifics student-athletes in 23 sports


FOREST GROVE – Recognition of top academic performers, a sports career panel, Special Olympics exhibition races and a Boxer Club event are among the highlights of Pacific's activities to celebrate the second NCAA Division III Week.
 
A nationwide celebration by the NCAA's largest division, Division III Week is an opportunity to observe and celebrate the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and in the surrounding community.  At Pacific, over 500 student-athletes compete as part of Pacific's 23 intercollegiate teams, accounting for nearly one-third of the university's undergraduate student body.
 
Activities for Division III Week on Thurs., Apr. 4, with ceremonies recognizing National Student-Athlete Day during halftime of Pacific's women's lacrosse game against Puget Sound.  The ceremony will honor participants in the athletic department's Faculty Associates Program and student-athletes that have earned recognition for academic achievement.
 
In addition to activities, the Pacific athletics website will post feature stories about past and present student-athletes who continue to do great things in the community and in their careers.
 
PACIFIC DIVISION III WEEK SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Thursday, April 4
National Student-Athlete Day
Women's Lacrosse vs. Puget Sound, 6 p.m., Lincoln Park Stadium
• Halftime ceremony will honor participants in the Pacific Faculty Associates Program, student-athletes recognized with Dean's List selection and student-athletes who have earned athletics-related academic honors.  Halftime ceremony will begin at approximately 6:40 p.m.
 
Thursday, April 11
Sports Career Panel, 11:30 a.m., the PULSE, University Center
Co-sponsored by the Athletic Department and the Career Development Center
• There are over 400,000 NCAA student-athletes, and most of them will go pro in something other than sports.  Here from three who have gone pro in sports as a high school athletic director, a journalist and an athletic trainer.  Our panelists will talk about how their experiences as student-athletes guided their career choices.
 
Friday, April 12
Women's Tennis vs. George Fox, 4 p.m., Holce Tennis Courts
Women's Lacrosse vs. Linfield, 6 p.m., Lincoln Park Stadium
 
Saturday, April 13
Track & Field Hosts Pacific Luau Meet, 9 a.m., Lincoln Park Stadium
• A pair of Special Olympics 100-meter races will be run as part of Pacific's and NCAA Division III's partnership with Special Olympics.  Races are scheduled to take place at 11:45 a.m.
Baseball vs. Whitworth (Doubleheader), Noon, Chuck Bafaro Stadium
 
Sunday, April 14
Boxer Club Spring Baseball/Softball Social, 11:30 a.m., between Chuck Bafaro Stadium & Sherman/Larkins Stadium
