What surprises you most about the Pacific community?

I know this is probably cliché, but this community is the most friendly, approachable, collaborative, positive and innovative community with which I’ve worked. There are no boundaries as far as who you can/cannot approach…and most of us go by our first names and are not tied to our titles.

Favorite thing about Oregon?

Pinot Noir. Oregon is the world’s greatest producer of fine Pinot Noir. And, though it took me a while to develop a palate for the wine, it is now my favorite.

Something that most people don't know about me...

I majored in Biology with an emphasis in pre-medicine while in College. I was on the pathway to a career in medicine when I somehow got side-tracked into the wonderful world of philanthropy. I haven’t looked back since.

Most memorable movie quote...

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering…these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love…these are what we stay alive for."
Professor Keating (Robin Williams) in 'Dead Poet's Society'

If you were stuck on a desert island, what book would you bring?

Though it is not something I own, or even aspire to read, I would have to say that I’d probably want something like the Special Forces Survival Guide which arms readers with the same battle-tested techniques used by the military's bravest, most elite soldiers.

Mountain or coast?

Both. I love Oregon and all it has to offer…from the majestic Oregon coast (especially the Southern Oregon Coast) to the grandeur of the Cascade Range.
