Course Description:

TORCH diseases can cause birth defects in the unborn child if the mother contracts them during pregnancy. TORCH stands for Toxoplasmosis, Other (Varicella), Rubella, Cytomegalovirus and Herpes Simplex.

Course Objectives:

To teach optometric diagnosis of the five TORCH diseases, all of which can cause birth defects:

  1. Toxoplasmosis
  2. Other (Varicella)
  3. Rubella
  4. Cytomegalovirus, and
  5. Herpes Simplex
