This course will the new, mostly topical, ophthalmic medications in ten drug classes: NSAIDS, topical anesthetics, anti-inflammatories, anti-infectives, anti-allergics, prostaglandins, VEGF inhibitors, miotics, and anti-virals.
Course Objectives:
At the completion of this course, the optometrist will know the indications, contraindications, and prescribing details concerning these ten classes of drugs:
1. NSAIDS (Acuvail)
2. Topical Anesthetics (Akten)
3. Combo Anti-Inflammatory/Anti-Infective (Azasite, Tobradex ST)
4. Anti-Allergic (Bepreve, Bromday, Lastacaft)
5. Anti-Infectives (Besivance, Ocudox, Zymaxid)
6. Steroids (Durezol)
7. Prostaglandin (Latisse, Lumigan)
8. VEGF Inhibitors (Lucentis/Avastin, Pazopanib)
9. Miotics (Nu-Rev)
10. Anti-virals (Zirgan)
