Pacific University is now home to a state-of-the art Simulation Lab (Sim Lab) at the College of Health Professions campus in Hillsboro.
Currently serving students in the School of Physician Assistant Studies, the lab combines robotics technology and real-life medical scenarios to give students the opportunity to simulate and practice medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in a safe and hands-on environment.
The lab features a Mannequin-based patient simulation, who blinks and talks through a microphone (fed by actors behind a mirrored wall). Above the patient is a large screen television with the patient¹s vital signs, ECG results, chest X-rays or other audiovisual information as needed.
Students work through scenarios, such as in-patient, trauma and emergency department care. They pause to evaluate in-process, and they conduct lengthy follow-up discussions to evaluate their experience.
