The practice of pharmacy is both an honor and a privilege. The faculty and staff of the pharmacy program at Pacific University strive to provide a learning environment that prepares the student for this responsibility. The School of Pharmacy is a three-year, accelerated program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. The commitment of the school is to provide a professional curriculum that is student-centered and guided by the view that the pharmacist plays a critical role as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team. This program is designed to provide students with didactic and clinical training opportunities to ensure their ability to adapt and meet the needs of the ever-changing healthcare field. Students will be well prepared to improve the health care outcomes of a diverse patient population by providing competent and compassionate pharmaceutical care.
Our program will challenge you in new and exciting ways as you acquire a tremendous amount of knowledge in a short period of time. Everything we teach is based on the concept that information builds upon itself. Our primary goal is for you to fully understand concepts in order to apply this knowledge toward the care and treatment of patients. In addition, our program is dedicated to helping you develop a curiosity that will motivate you throughout your career because life-long learning is also an important reality for healthcare professionals. Clinical work is introduced in the first year of the professional program and increases in complexity as the student progresses. The third year is devoted entirely to advanced experiential education which consists of seven six-week rotations.
Your career as a pharmacist will allow you to choose from a variety of practice settings, including but not limited to community pharmacies, ambulatory clinics, hospitals, and long-term care pharmacies. You may also pursue opportunities in research, academics, government, or public health.
