Reza Karimi, Pharm D., Ph.D.

Dr. Karimi holds a MSc of Pharmacy degree (equivalent to U.S. Pharm. D.) from the University of Uppsala School of Pharmacy, Sweden. He completed his Ph.D. in bacterial protein synthetic machinery from the University of Uppsala, Department of Molecular Biology, Sweden.  Dr. Karimi completed his postdoctoral fellowship in protease biochemistry, Department of Microbiology, University of Nevada, Reno.

Dr. Karimi’s research and teaching activities have led to more than 20 national and international publications and posters in peer reviewed journals and conferences and has been invited to speak at various scientific and academic meetings.  

Dr. Karimi’s teaching responsibilities have been biochemistry, introduction to medicinal and biological chemistry, introduction to pharmaceutical sciences, and case study in sciences at LECOM School of Pharmacy and Pacific University School of Pharmacy.  His past and current administrative positions include: Director of Post Baccalaureate Program, Director of Student Promotion and Retention, Chairman of Student Promotion and Graduation Committee, Chairman of Academic Standards, Co-Chairman of Curriculum Committee, and Assistant Dean for Program Assessment.

Dr. Karimi’s main research interests are in the biochemical mechanisms of proteases in cytotoxic cells and the role of antibiotics on bacterial protein synthetic machinery.  He is involved with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and is Chairman of the Faculty Development Committee, Biological Sciences Section, of AACP.  Dr. Karimi was awarded LECOM School of Pharmacy Teacher of the Year in the annual AACP meeting in Salt Lake City, 2004.

Dr. Karimi's favorite activity is spending time with his wife and son as he enjoys balancing the joys of family life with his academic responsibilities.
