Image/Pictorial Displays in the Classroom

Safest Use

Portion Limitations:

  • There are no portion limitations. Entire artistic works, images, etc may be displayed in the classroom in the course of face-to-face teaching.

Time Limitations:

  • There are no time limitations. Artistic works, images, etc may be displayed multiple times in a classroom in the course of instruction.

Access/Distribution Limitations:

  • The copy of the artistic works, images, etc must have been legally obtained, either through purchase or license.

  • The display must be for students/faculty involved in the course.

Questionable Use

  • For possible uses of copyrighted materials that may fall outside of “the course of face-to-face teaching activities”, please contact the Copyright Help Desk.

Dangerous Use

  • Displaying an illegally produced or obtained copy of an image or work.

  • Displaying an artistic work, image, etc outside of the course of face-to-face teaching activities.

  • Charging money for the display of an artistic work, image, etc (even for charity).
