Keynote Speaker: Martin J. La Roche, Ph.D.
Presentation: Cultural Psychotherapy: A Clinical Illustration
Martin J. La Roche is a Latino American psychologist who has been in practice for over 20 years and has been Director of Training at the Martha Eliot Health Center (the second-oldest health center in the country) for 17 years. He is also Assistant Professor in Psychology at the Harvard Medical School at the Children’s Hospital Boston. He has authored numerous articles/chapters and has published a new book entitled “Cultural Psychotherapy: Theory, Methods and Practice.” His work centers on designing culturally competent psychotherapeutic strategies for culturally diverse groups. Dr. La Roche has been the principal investigator on several research projects in which he has worked to refine these strategies. Dr. La Roche has received many research/academic awards such as the Milton Fund Research Award, the Pilot Research Award, and the Bridge Award from the Harvard Medical School. Dr. La Roche has also been a private practitioner in the Cambridge, Massachusetts, area for the last 15 years. Finally, Dr. La Roche served for 7 years as the Co-Chair of the Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs at the Massachusetts Psychological Association and was a board member, where he also advocated for the well-being of diverse groups.
