Residence Life Professional Staff

Resident Directors and Resident Manager
(RDs & RM)
Your RD, or RM, is a full-time, professional staff member who lives year-round on campus. All the RDs have a master’s degree with an emphasis in higher education or counseling. Your RD is responsible for your entire building, including supervising and training student staff, overseeing programming, managing facilities, counseling, advising, and promoting respectful conduct.

Residence Life Paraprofessional Staff

Resident Assistant/Community Advisor (RA/CA)
RA/CA’s are full-time students and serve in a paraprofessional leadership position. RA/CA’s primary responsibility is to help build a sense of community and respect on each floor and to maintain university standards. RA/CA’s are responsible for planning activities that encourage involvement and interaction on your floor. They have been trained to be someone with whom you can talk and to be a link to many campus services and resources.

Academic Resident Assistant (ARA)
ARAs are resident assistants who have special duties to promote academic success. While RAs focus on a particular floor or wing, ARAs focus on an entire building. While RAs perform duties at the front desks, ARAs have duties at the Writing Resource Center or the Math and Science Tutoring Center. While RAs plan social activities for a wing, ARAs plan activities to enhance students’ academic skills.

Hall Coordinator (HC)
Your HC is the senior student staff member in your hall and also serves as a resident assistant for a particular floor. The HC works closely with the RD to develop the RA staff and monitor the overall atmosphere for all residents. The HC co-advises hall council with the RD and assists in maintaining the operation of your front desk.

All RAs, which includes ARAs and HCs, are trained to assist you with a variety of personal and school concerns. As with any group of leaders, each RA has particular skills or strengths that may be resourceful in a given situation. Residents are free to approach any staff member for assistance, though one may refer to another as the situation dictates.

Network Assistants (NA)
NAs are full-time students and serve as a technical resource in the halls. The NA’s primary responsibility is to help students set-up and maintain their connection to the University’s computer network. Your NA is available to help you with computer and printer questions that may arise when the Technical Information Center is closed.
