Roommate Selection for On-Campus Spaces
- It is to your advantage to choose your own roommate(s).
-
The roommate(s) you select must be eligible and a current Pacific University student(s) enrolled in 12 undergraduate credits hour per semester or a professional student still seeking a bachelor's degree.
-
If your intended roommate(s) missed any of the published deadlines or returned incomplete application materials, it will be necessary for them to select their housing space during the Late Sign-Up Period. Spaces cannot be held for them during the Lottery Process.
-
All eligible persons involved must come in together during the Select New Room appointment of the individual holding the lowest lottery number or with the person retaining their room. If someone cannot be present, they must sign an Absentee Room Selection form.
-
You are strongly encouraged to bring in enough roommates to fill your entire room or unit. If you are unable to secure enough roommates, fewer housing options may be available to you. For example, if you want to select housing in Vandervelden Court & you come in by yourself, the Housing & Residence Life Office will only be able to let you select from limited units. This is so we can accommodate students that come in with enough roommates to fill a unit.
-
If you don't fill your room or unit during the Lottery and a space remains vacant in your room or unit at the end of the academic year, you will be assigned a roommate during the summer and will be notified of this assignment by mail. Stop by the Housing Office before you leave for the summer to see if someone signed up to be your roommate.
To put a hold on
a room for an incoming student, you must meet all requirements as stated
on Retaining Current
Space or Selecting
New Space. You also need to let the incoming student know that in
order for you to hold a space for them during the Housing Lottery Selection
process that both their 2007-08 Housing Application/Contract, Housing
Application fee (if applicable) and their Admissions Enrollment Deposit
must be received no later than April 2 and they must have all requested
roommates on the Housing Application (this must be mutual in order to
process). The Housing Office will not be managing this for you,
so be sure to follow-through as stated. If you are planning to live with
a new student, you should stop by the Housing Office after April 3 to
be sure everything is in order. During your contract appointment we will not be
able to make arrangements for the new student unless these steps are
taken care of in advance.
If the new student cancels their housing request prior
to school opening in the Fall, you may be reassigned to another location, if
a group of students signed up for the same room on the Summer Wait List they
would be moved to your space. Therefore returning students are taking a risk
if they choose to reserve a space for an incoming student.
Desire Incoming International Student As A Roommate
- Current students will be permitted to hold space for a new international student.
- Only double rooms in Clark, McCormick, and Walter or rooms in Vandervelden may be reserved. Vandervelden rooms must be on the same side of the unit. Burlingham Hall and the New Residence Hall will only be reserved if openings remain after the Late Sign-Up period.
You may select the person you wish to room with you in the suite; however, you will not be allowed to select the student(s) to be your suitemate(s) - individual(s) who would occupy adjoining suites.
The Lottery Roommate Connection service will provide individuals with an opportunity to find roommates for next Fall. Students may submit information about themselves and view other individuals information in order to assist in the roommate selection process. Students interested in participating in this service should go to Pacific's E-Classifieds.
It is up to the students participating in this service to seek out a roommate based on the information supplied to them. This is NOT a matching service.
