Residency Requirements
Living Off Campus – Residency Waiver Information
Living in a residence hall is an important factor in the process of both social and academic growth. Residence halls foster a living-learning environment where students can develop interpersonal skills and intercultural understanding among students with diverse backgrounds. Because Pacific University considers residence hall community living as one of the most valuable learning experiences of a student’s educational career, Pacific requires students who have not been out of high school for two years to live in a residence hall on campus.
Exceptions to this requirement include:
- Student is under the legal age of 18 and will remain so during the duration of the housing contract term (an academic year).
- Student is married and/or the parent of a dependent child, requires a residency waiver.
- Student has graduated at least two years prior to matriculation.
- Student will live full-time with their parent(s) and/or legal guardian and the residence is located within 30 miles to the University.
If you meet one or more of these exceptions and want to move off-campus, pick up a Residency Waiver application in Student Life. Committee approval is required for all waivers. If you have questions about the waiver process, please contact Director of Residence Life, Ryan Aiello.
Applying for a Residency Waiver for the 2008-2009 Academic Year
Students who wish to move off campus must meet eligibility requirements as stated above or gain approval from the Residency Options Committee. If you meet eligibility requirements, you may simply return the Housing Status Change form that will be mailed to your UC Box on March 7.
If you don't meet eligibility requirements, you must complete and return the Residency Waiver form (available in the Student Life Office) by Friday, March 21. We advise that you also submit all necessary application materials to enter the Housing Lottery, in case your waiver application is not approved.
