Dear Students,
There may be some clubs on campus that promise you delicious Hawaiian food, great parties, a chance to learn another language, or an opportunity to play ultimate Frisbee.
Math Club doesn't offer any of these things (not even the Frisbee).
We're better than that.
Sure, Chemistry Club may tell you that they blow stuff up. And Future Filmmakers Club may tell you that you'll meet Martin Scorsese. But Math Club doesn't need to entice you with explosions or famous people; we're awesome enough on our own.
Need proof?
Proof: Suppose math club is not awesome. That is, suppose that math club DOES NOT hold regular pizza lunches, movie nights (where we DON'T watch Proof or TRON ), the prospect of attending regional math meetings and hearing fellow students present is NOT given, we DON'T hold tutoring sessions for Calculus students during finals week, and we DON'T pi our professors in the face. Oh wait, what's that last one? Oh yeah, I guess we do that oneā¦
Once a year, the week before Pi Day (3.14.. / March 14 th / get it?), we hold a fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank. Students vote with canned food or spare change for their favorite math professor to be pi'd on the international holiday. Last year, we proudly raised enough to feed fifteen families for four days. Doing the math, that works out to a little more than 700 meals (if you calculated that in your head, please join our club). In addition to this fine act of charity, three professors of mathematics were pummeled with pi. It was quite exciting (you can watch the video on the Math Department website), and, of course, we ate pi.
So our logic follows something like: If math club were not awesome, we wouldn't do all the stuff listed above, so if math club DID do all the stuff listed above, math club would be awesome.
Since math club DOES participate in all the activities so listed (including pi-ing our favorite professors), we are proven awesome. Q.E.D.
So, come. Join us in one of our pi-tastic celebrations. Help us decide if pi or e is the better number (it's pi). Get revenge on your math profs with pi (there really is no better way). If you're lucky enough, you may even get the chance to play games with John Conway (like, the most famous mathematician alive today).
You never know what's going to happen. I guess you'll just have to stop by one of our meetings sometime.

Mission :
We, the executive members of the Mathematics Club at Pacific University, strive to enhance the lives of students on campus by providing events that connect students with a common interest in the mathematical sciences, and strengthen the relationships between students, their peers, and faculty members.
Purpose:
The purpose of the Math Club is to support the study of mathematics at Pacific, provide tutorial services in the mathematical sciences when needed and available, and organize events that unite students with a common interest in mathematics.
